PortfolioXpert stores files on your local computer drive in two different, top-level folders:

Program Data (PortfolioXpert)

The Program Data Folder is used to store the PX executable and Java Runtime files. Under default installation settings for Windows, the folder is located at <HOME>\AppData\Local\PortfolioXpert. For example, when using Windows 7 and the username ‘michael’, the folder is located at C:\Users\michael\AppData\Local\PortfolioXpert. This folder can be removed/deleted at any time and most of the files are removed during the Uninstall process, but once removed PX will need to be re-installed.

Configuration Data (pxworkspace)

The Configuration Data folder is where your personal settings are saved. Under default installation settings for Windows, the folder is located at <HOME>\pxworkspace. For example, when using Windows 7 and the username ‘michael’, the folder is located at C:\Users\michael\pxworkspace.

  • pxworkspace/config.txt

The config.txt file inside this folder stores your login name and password if you choose to remember the login name and password each time you start PX. The password is difficult to read, but not impossible to decipher, so care should be taken on shared or public computers. This file can be removed/deleted at any time and will automatically be re-created the next time PX is run.

  • pxworkspace/.metadata

The pxworkspace/.metadata folder stores your layouts and saved preferences. This folder can be removed/deleted at any time, but doing so will cause any custom settings, saved layouts, fonts, or colors to be lost.‍
